Back Story of " In the Neighborhood "
Growing up in a city that was multicultural, going to school, playing, losing, and loving was just the fringes of the tapestry for me. I worked and attended college in NYC in my late teens where I was introduced to what real multiculturalism is. The impact of skyscrapers around you, cabs and bikes alike traveling at incredible speeds, noise at levels that even being from a city myself; seemed brand new to me. Riding the subway on the 1,4,5,6, the N or the R downtown was an experience not easily forgotten. Why? What was so impressive? The people I tell you. Never in my life had I seen so many people and from so many places. A true melting pot, a neighborhood in its truest sense.
Imagine people from different countries, cultures that have different faces, beliefs, dressing different, smelling different and behaving different, but all together, shoulder to shoulder; literally sometimes; out there doing their best to get to whatever , wherever and whoever they needed to in ant like patterns and determination. I loved it.
I always moved on the principle that if you respect me I'll respect you no matter what your color. But I have always been intrigued and even drawn to by the differences that people have. How is it that we can be so different; but still the same on a foundational building block level?
In the Neighborhood is a culmination of my experiences and what I've noticed to be common denominating factors in various neighborhoods and cultures. I have Frimily (friends who are considered family) from all walks of life and cultures who have exposed me to the beauty of their cultures and customs and have made it possible for a song like In the Neighborhood to be constructed. The smooth and powerful vocal by D. Fuller bumped up against my truthful verses say it all. Inclusiveness.
Back Story of “ Incisions In Your Pain ”
I believe that you should only talk about things you actually know about. if you don't know; then try to get an understanding. In early 2025 I was given a track produced by Enaj . It was raw, it was dramatic, it felt like a soundtrack to a movie. Once again Enaj delivered another masterful music composition into my hands; I'm elated.
Music is meant for you to feel. Music can make you mad, sad, happy, aroused, energized or have many other effects. It could bring you back a memory and make you reflect. As for me, as soon as I heard the beat; instant connection. I knew I had to write something that was going to be rich in meaning and have a deep context. “Keep things locked away to keep you safe. Bury things so deep they’ll stay. Lips sealed no leaks today…..” The music pulled the words right out of my heart and mouth. But how was I gonna communicate that throughout the song? I thought to myself; pain; everybody can relate to that. Everybody's felt it in one form or another, and it didn't have to just be physical It could be mental. And like that; I had a hook that practically wrote itself. So I finished the whole song within a couple days and handed it over to my partners to get their thoughts. They felt it, I felt it, and even though it was complete, was it?
Have you had food that you thought this is it; it doesn't get any better. Then someone suggests you add a little something and you never look at that food the same again. Now you can't ever imagine eating this food without that ingredient. Well, D (Dwight Fuller) was so affected by the song that he came up with a vocalization that was right in the pocket. It was that ingredient that was never thought of, that changed the whole dynamic of the song and elevated it to a level I hadn't conceived. Five syllables “It's and all night pain” and the rest was history. He told me “ Everyone knows pain. But there is no pain more understood; then an all night pain”
With a hauntingly dramatic production, mind provoking truthful lyrics and intense expression of a soulful vocal. Incisions In Your Pain will have you contemplating your own circumstances.
